Learning outside the Classroom – consultation, staff training and activities.

We firmly believe in the power of learning outside the classroom. For many schools this takes place in the Early Years then tends to diminish rapidly with pupils only going outside for occasional visits, most of which are off site. Developing opportunities to take the curriculum outside need to start in your school grounds and integrate with your planned offsite visits.  Planning for the introduction of engaging cross-curricular activities need not be an additional element that adds to staff workload.

We appreciate that every school has its own context, curriculum requirements and individual needs when it comes to learning outside the classroom. We offer bespoke training tailored to your needs whether this be individual staff or whole staff INSET. Any work undertaken would start with an initial consultation to identify current situation, long term goals, opportunities and outcomes.

We can also support teaching staff by running activity days to model and encourage. We offer a range of cross curricular activities to support all areas of the curriculum –science, mathematics, ICT, geography

It may be that you are looking at developing growing areas for vegetables or using the school grounds to learn about wildlife. Our support programs have included project management, design and building of outdoor learning areas, pond and wildlife area creation. We also have extensive experience in setting up and running local fieldwork events for individual and clusters of schools.

Learning outside supports the informal as well as the formal curriculum, building collaboration, problem solving abilities, resilience and motivation.

Let us help you create an ethos, policies and practice which will allow you to develop your learning opportunities.
